Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV)

What does it mean to stand firm and be unmovable? It’s mean you don’t waiver when the trials come. You’re not swayed when temptation sets in. You’re untouched, unbothered, and unaffected by the silliness, foolishness, and other nonsense that so easily snares most people because your mission, your passion, and your commitment to your calling carries far greater weight than the circumstances you’re surrounded with. You know, at the end of the day, the work that you’re doing is important. And, it’s results will be exceptionally beneficial to you and to others.

Be like Nehemiah. When he was called to come down from his work of rebuilding the wall, he decided that what he was working on was for more important than answering to someone who didn’t matter. His response when Sanballat and Geshem wanted to meet with, secretly devising a plan to destroy him, was simple: “I am doing a great work, I cannot come down.” (Nehemiah 6:1-9) And even after they sent for him another four times, his response was the same.

Your response when people want to hinder your progress should be this simple: “I am doing a great work. I cannot come down.”

Be like Nehemiah: stand firm. Your labor, your work will not be in vain.
